Teresa Lu, Kristy McPherson and Katherine Hull are the leaders at -6 through the first day of action at the NW Arkansas Championship. Play was suspended at 7:11pm CDT due to darkness with the afternoon half of the field still on the course. Sherri Turner is in fourth place at -5 with Maria Hjorth and local favorite Stacy Lewis (thru 6 holes) at -4.
The first groups didn’t tee off until 11:45am because of torrential rain. There were no further delays (despite the forecast) but the last groups to start were only able to complete two or three holes before darkness. Play will resume at 7:15 and Round Two should start before 11:00. As the day progresses, the forecast gets more and more ominous so I wouldn’t count on them getting back on schedule.
Here are the notable scores so far, with partial scores indicated by parentheses:
-4 Maria Hjorth, Stacy Lewis (6)
-3 Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Juli Inkster (9)
-2 Seon Hwa Lee, Laura Diaz, Nicole Castrale (9)
-1 Natalie Gulbis (9)
E Se Ri Pak, Sarah Lee (9), Stacy Prammanasudh (9), Angela Park (9)
+1 Christina Kim (9), Sherri Steinhauer (7)
+2 Brittany Lincicome, Moira Dunn, Paige Mackenzie, Grace Park (7)
+5 Jeong Jang, Erica Blasberg
I was right about TGC showing a lot of Mackenzie and some of Blasberg. We also got to see Teresa Lu lighting it up and learned that it is not that hard to pronounce “Virada Nirapathpongporn”. The Constructivist points out the possible existence of a Hound Dog jinx with Kimmie’s WD and JJ’s 77. It would more likely be attributed to the phenomenon known as “Bad Picks”.
