Stanford International – 1st Round

Paula Creamer, Momoko Ueda and Young Kim share the first-round lead at the Stanford International Pro-Am. Seven players, including Annika Sorenstam, Cristie Kerr and Yani Tseng are tied for fourth at -2, one shot behind.

Rounds were taking six hours for some to complete, mostly due to the pro-am format but also because of swirling winds. The final group off at the Miller Course, Ji Young Oh and H.J. Choi, teed off at 12:20. They were only through 8 at 3:45 and the board at lpga.com didn’t list them as done until about 6:45.

Other notable scores (in relation to par to avoid confusion):
-2 Candie Kung, Meena Lee, Kyeong Bae
-1 Shi Hyun Ahn, Angela Stanford, Mi Hyun Kim
-1 Maria Hjorth, Juli Inkster, Christina Kim
E Suzann Pettersen, Hee-Won Han, Ai Miyazato
+1 Stacy Prammanasudh, Angela Park, Grace Park
+2 Nicole Castrale, Karrie Webb, Karen Stupples, Laura Diaz
+3 Jeong Jang, In-Kyung Kim
+4 Seon Hwa Lee, Laura Davies, Louise Friberg
+5 Jee Young Lee, Morgan Pressel, Natalie Gulbis
+9 Brittany Lincicome

Laura Davies had the shot of the day – a hole-in-one at 13 which ESPN caught live. Christina Kim was -4 and having a jolly good time with James Caan until she triple-bogeyed 18. Grace Park got more airtime than I’ve seen in three years – I’ll try NOT to post all of it during the highlights. Yani Tseng was being shown at -4 for the last hour of the telecast but it looks like somebody originally missed that double she took at 16. It was mentioned that Creamer was on crutches earlier in the week with a hip problem, but it didn’t appear to bother her much today.

Relative course difficulty will even itself out tomorrow, but the difference between Soffer and Miller is 111 yards, less than a pitching wedge. And for that players are getting one extra stroke to par at Soffer. Miller has got to be the more difficult course.

Unfortunately I won't get any TV time with this tournament until the final round Sunday. I'm definitely looking forward to see who can win without Lorena in the field.

diane, raw score is what matters. I have to disagree with Hound Dog's way of presenting the leaderboard and with your claim that the Miller is the more difficult course.

Having two courses with different par is screwy. Whichever way you list 'em, it's a mess until after Friday.

Even then - when the event is over I have go back figure the scoring average for this thing with par set at 70.75...ugh.
