Ginn Open – 3rd Round

Lorena Ochoa fired a 65 to take a one-shot lead at the Ginn Open. Yani Tseng is second at -15 after her round of 69. Teresa Lu is in third place at -11 while Suzann Pettersen and Carin Koch are tied for fifth at -10.

A bogey at 2 put Ochoa four back but then she started her charge. Nine holes later, she had birdied six times to reach -14 and take the lead. Another birdie at 15 put Lorena up by two, Tseng birdied 16 to trim it back to one, and both players birdied 18. Lu birdied three times (all on the front nine) with 15 pars to card a 69 but now trails by five. Pettersen couldn’t get on track, posting 72 to fall six behind. Koch was -13 and only down by two until she bogeyed 17 and doubled 18. Minea Blomqvist took herself out of contention with a 73 – she’s at -8 and down by eight.

We’ve seen this movie before – Ochoa leading by one with only one player close at hand – and I’m sure you remember how it ended. If anybody’s going to stop Lorena from winning her fourth in a row, it almost has to be Yani Tseng. She’s shown us she has the game – does she have the nerve?

I haven’t watched the TV coverage yet. I was digging ditches at my local course this afternoon – don’t bother asking what my score was. Should have more to add later this evening.

UPDATE: And so I do! The theme music for CBS' golf coverage was composed by Yanni, so I suppose Tseng should win tomorrow. Tseng is using a new putter that Dave Stockton gave her - if she wins, that would probably be the more likely reason.

I saw a promo for Mixed Martial Arts (Coming May 31 to CBS!!). With Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer out of contention in this tournament, I think that ad probably missed its target audience.

Has Jacqueline Yang reverted to her original name? She was listed as Young-A Yang on the board at lpga.com this week. Jacqueline played much better at SBS than Young-A did at Ginn.

Why Tseng?

I think Suzann Pettersen is the only player with a demonstrated ability to hang with Ochoa when she is playing well. Unfortunately she is too far back this time...

That's what I mean. Tseng is the only player close enough to have a chance, so she HAS to get it done or Ochoa wins again.
