Team Korea – some of us know them as Ji-Yai Shin and Eun-Hee Ji – played four-ball to a score of 61 to lead by one stroke after the first day of the Women’s World Cup of Golf. The French team of Gwladys Nocera and Virginie Lagoutte-Clement combined to post 62 (-10), which was only enough to rate second place. Team Canada is third at -8 with the United States, Sweden and the Philippines tied for fourth at -7.
Korea in first? Not much of a surprise there. The presence of France and the Philippines (Jennifer Rosales/Dorothy Delasin) near the top was a shocker to me. Defending champs Paraguay had a good day, posting 66 to tie for seventh. Scotland, with Catriona Matthew and Mhairi McKay, only got home in 68 so they have a lot of ground to make up. The complete leaderboard can be found here under the “Scoring Centre” pull-down.
Golf Channel’s coverage begins at 12:30 EST but I won’t be able to watch it until this evening. If the coverage gives me anything to add, I’ll have an update.
