CN Canadian Women’s Open – 1st Round

Laura Diaz continued her recent good play with a -6 round of 65 to take the first round lead at the CN Canadian Women’s Open. Kelli Kuehne and Kyeong Bae are one shot back with six other players two behind.

Diaz birdied six times (including three in a row on her back nine) and did not suffer a bogey. Kuehne’s 66 was her best round of 2007 by three strokes – hopefully she can keep that going. From the things I read about her, she’s a very likeable gal who hasn’t had much success over the last five seasons. Her only Tour victory came in 1999 at the Corning Classic. Come to think of it, Laura Diaz has gone a few years herself without a lot of success. She won twice in 2002 but has not broken through since.

Notable first-round scores included:
67 Jeong Jang, Shi Hyun Ahn
68 Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster
69 Cristie Kerr
70 Seon Hwa Lee, Maria Hjorth, Lorena Ochoa, Mi Hyun Kim
71 Angela Park, Brittany Lincicome
72 Karrie Webb, Stacy Prammanasudh, Young Kim, Angela Stanford
73 Suzann Pettersen, Sherri Steinhauer, Laura Davies, Sarah Lee
74 Morgan Pressel
75 Jee Young Lee, Michelle Wie
77 Se Ri Pak
79 Ai Miyazato

Nicole Castrale withdrew before the start of the event – I have not heard why as yet. Looks like my CYA picks (Pak and JY Lee) won’t be helping my stats much this week.
