LPGA Championship Preview

The second major championship of the year is upon us, the LPGA Championship. Se Ri Pak should be the center of attention as she is the defending champion and will also be completing her qualification for the LPGA Hall Of Fame. Pak defeated Karrie Webb on the first playoff hole last year with a memorable four-iron shot that stopped just inches short of the cup. For the second straight year, this major championship will not be televised over any of the American broadcast networks. The Golf Channel will provide three hours of coverage every day starting at 12:30 EDT Thursday.

Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland (about 30 miles NE of Baltimore) will be the venue for the third consecutive year. The par-72 layout is 6596 yards long. If memory serves, scoring conditions were very good last year and a larger number of players (28) finished under par than usual for a major.

As for the field…it’s a major, so it’s a great one. Like KNC, this one is at the same course as last year so that gives one a little extra info on picking who might be playing in the final group on Sunday with Ochoa. You guessed it, I’m once again taking the Mexican Spitfire to win. Paula Creamer and Sarah Lee are my CYAs.

Stats: Winners 1-12 (2-12 with CYAs), Top Tens 19-36.

Hi Hound Dog,

If I'm not mistaken Se Ri used a hybrid #4 for her amazing shot that ended inches from the cup.

I seldom have anything to contribute as your Blog is always so complete, this week I will agree on Ochoa to win, although I have been noticing "sunday problems" with Lorena.

Enjoy...

Sergio,
You are probably right about the 4-hybrid. If I had watched TGC Monday night (they were replaying last year's final round) I could have confirmed it.

Thanks for the compliment, but always feel free to suggest or comment.

Lorena definitely has had some "sunday problems" this year. She could very reasonably have won 5 of the first 12 events.
