Sarah Lee tied a tournament record with a 63 to take the first round lead at the Michelob Ultra Open. Mi Hyun Kim is one shot back after her round of 64, and Birdie Kim and Laura Davies are two shots off the pace.
Lee’s -8 round included nine birdies (five in a row on the front nine), one bogey and many bad pastry jokes from the gallery. Mi Hyun Kim, who is riding a rather outstanding karmic wave right now, went bogey-less with seven birdies. 56 of the 144 players posted rounds under par, 24 of those carded 68 or better. Conditions were good, I’d say. Among the scores were:
Brittany Lincicome 66
Natalie Gulbis 67
Grace Park 67
Stacy Prammanasudh 67
Morgan Pressel 67
Karrie Webb 68
Jee Young Lee 68
Juli Inkster 68
Cristie Kerr 69
Ai Miyazato 69
Se Ri Pak 70
Jeong Jang 70
Paula Creamer 70
Lorena Ochoa 70
Julieta Granada 70
Shi Hyun Ahn 71
Seon Hwa Lee 73
Pat Hurst 76
Anybody who didn’t break par today had better do it tomorrow or they might not need to stick around for Saturday. Shot of the day belonged to Juli Inkster, who aced the 13th hole with an 8-iron. Believe it or not, it was only the second ace of her 25-year LPGA career. Hard for ME to believe, anyway.
