Lorena Ochoa and Laura Davies each fired rounds of 66 to claim the first round lead at the Ginn #1. Brittany Lincicome is one shot back, with Na Ri Kim, Sherri Turner and defending champion Mi Hyun Kim two behind.
Scoring conditions were good, with 14 players posting rounds in the 60s. At least two struggling players were able to get their games together Thursday – Natalie Gulbis carded a 69 despite not canning several birdie opportunites, and Juli Inkster got home in 70. Other notable scores include:
Se Ri Pak 69
Shi Hyun Ahn 70
Seon-Hwa Lee 71
Karrie Webb 72
Cristie Kerr 72
Stacy Prammanasudh 72
Ai Miyazato 72
Julieta Granada 73
Jee Young Lee 73
Paula Creamer 74
Jeong Jang 74
Sherri Steinhauer 74
Morgan Pressel 75
Pat Hurst 75
Nancy Lopez’ return started off well as she was even par through the front nine, but she was only able to par one of the last nine as she wound up posting an 83. The Post-Pond-Jumpin’ Blues struck Morgan Pressel, or maybe it was the new clubs – the ones she won with at the Nabisco were stolen on the trip east.
It was good to see and hear Brian Hammonds back in the booth last night. Having had some experience in that area, Rosie Jones did a great job describing Annika Sorenstam’s disc problem and her road to recovery.
