Safeway International – 3rd Round

Lorena Ochoa (-14) carries a four shot lead into the final round of the Safeway International. Jeong Jang and Suzann Pettersen are tied for second at -10 with Shi Hyun Ahn in fourth place at -8. Annika Sorenstam, Sophie Gustafson, Il Mi Chung and Catriona Matthew are tied for fifth at -6, eight strokes out of first.

Lorena completed her second round Saturday morning with two more birdies to finish with a 64, only one shot off the course record. That gave her a three stroke lead to start round three. Early on the back nine, Ochoa’s lead was six strokes but by the time she reached the 17th tee, it had dwindled to two. Despite numerous chances, Lorena wasn’t making any birdie putts while Pettersen had moved to -11. However, Pettersen bogeyed 17 and when Ochoa birdied 18, the reigning Player Of The Year had a bit more breathing room.

While Saturday's scores were generally better due to the good conditions, I have to point out that the round of the day was the 65 carded by Grace Park. Grace is now at -4, tied for 14th, ten shots behind.

Not only do we get our first Round Four of the season today, we also have a tournament which is back on schedule! Because of this, they will play twosomes and everyone will play 18 in proper order (instead of half the field starting on 10) as they should on the weekend. First pair goes off at 7am PDT with Ochoa and Jang teeing off at 11:56am. Tonight’s coverage on TGC begins at 7:30pm EDT.
