The grass was really green in Greenville

Some of you long-time fans of the LPGA may have heard this bit of trivia before - if you have, please humor the relative newbies like me. I noticed it while researching player profiles.

Furman University, located in Greenville SC, had one killer women's golf program back in the late '70s. Betsy King (class of '77), Beth Daniel ('78) and Sherri Turner ('79) were all playing there about the same time. Two Hall-of-Famers and another who's made a pretty good living on tour for 25 years. How they failed to win the NCAA golf championship is beyond me! Then about ten years later, Dottie Pepper ('87) passed through. All four are members of the Furman Athletic Hall Of Fame. Other former Paladins you may have heard about include Maggie Will ('87), Diana D'Alessio ('97) and Ashli Bunch ('97).

Current golf academies like Arizona, Duke or UCLA might be pretty hard-pressed to match the female golfing alumni that Furman can trot out.
