Annika Sorenstam took control of the Samsung World Championship Saturday with a round of 66. Her -12 score is three strokes ahead of Lorena Ochoa, and four ahead of Sophie Gustafson.
Annika only bogeyed one hole (the 9th, which she doubled on Friday) while birdying seven others. Ochoa fired a bogey-free 67, only to lose more ground to the World’s #1 player. The two of them will be playing head-to-head during Sunday’s final round. Gustafson was at -9 only shot out of the lead when she dropped her second into the water at the par-5 15th. After that bogey, Sophie wasn’t able to move any closer. Stacy Prammanasudh (-7) and Cristie Kerr (-6) both had good days to move into the Top 5. Sherri Steinhauer (-6) and Paula Creamer (-6) did not, but they also still have a chance if they can post a low number. After starting the day only two shots out of the lead, Karrie Webb (-1) put herself out of it with a 75. Pat Hurst (-3) ran off five birdies in a row early on the back nine, but stumbled toward the end and ended up with a 71.
Sunday’s final round airs on NBC beginning at 4pm EDT.
