Honda LPGA Thailand – 1st Round

Nicole Castrale and Heather Young both posted 65s to take the first round lead at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Meena Lee is one shot behind and Hee-Won Han is two back.

Young’s round was bogey-free, while Castrale overcame her one bogey with eight birdies. 15 players total had rounds in the sixties, including rookie Jane Park, Kim Saiki, Gloria Park and Lorie Kane. Only 17 of the 60 competitors were over par, among them Mi Hyun Kim (74) and Sophie Gustafson (79). Others who weren’t really able to take advantage of the good scoring conditions were Cristie Kerr (71), Julieta Granada (72) and Stacy Prammanasudh (72).

EXTRA NOTE: I noticed in the post-round player interviews on lpga.com that the Number One Topic was the stifling heat. Kerr even mentioned getting a little light-headed from it. Saturday's weather looks to be more of the same - high of 93 with scattered thunderstorms, so the humidity will be near 100%. Hopefully everyone (players, caddies, spectators) will stay hydrated and healthy through the weekend.
