Cristie Kerr joined Maria Hjorth atop the leaderboard at the State Farm Classic on Friday. Kerr’s 64 and Hjorth’s 67 put them at -12, with Il Mi Chung one shot back. Seon-Hwa Lee and Nina Reis are two back at -10. A total of 26 players are within seven of the lead with two rounds to go.
The cut was -1 and claimed defending champion and last week’s winner Pat Hurst (+2). I’m thinking of creating a Jekyll-Hyde list and putting Pat at the top of it. Se Ri Pak was well on her way to missing the cut (I saw her as high as +7) before she withdrew. Annika Sorenstam was flirting with the cut line midway through her round (-2 through seven holes) but she played bogey-free the rest of the way to finish -6. Jee Young Lee (my pick to win) is at -4 and CYA pick Lorena Ochoa is -7.
