Annika Sorenstam, Song-Hee Kim and Rachel Hetherington share the first-round lead at the Sybase Classic. Tied for fourth place one shot back are Lorena Ochoa, Catriona Matthew, Brittany Lang, Teresa Lu, Pat Hurst and Carolina Llano.
Sorenstam wasn’t exactly distracted by the attention of her Tuesday announcement – she birdied five times with no bogeys to post 67. Kim did likewise and Hetherington only bogeyed once while carding her lowest round of the year. Lu had a rollercoaster day – five birdies, an eagle and three bogeys – en route to her 68. Other scores:
69 Christina Kim, Cristie Kerr, Shi Hyun Ahn
69 Sophie Gustafson, Anna Rawson, Ai Miyazato
70 Morgan Pressel, Seon Hwa Lee, Na Yeon Choi, Lindsey Wright
71 Stacy Prammanasudh, Yani Tseng, Nicole Castrale, In-Kyung Kim
72 Karen Stupples, Inbee Park, Dina Ammaccapane, Sophie Giquel
73 Jee Young Lee, Momoko Ueda, Natalie Gulbis, Jane Park
74 Angela Park, Candie Kung, Russy Gulyanamitta
75 Hee-Won Han, Sherri Steinhauer, Carin Koch
76 Karrie Webb, Hee Young Park, Allison Fouch
Young Kim is listed as disqualified – as soon as I find out why, I’ll let you know. UPDATE: lpga.com reports Kim didn't turn in her scorecard. Also, Il Mi Chung DQ'd for not signing her card. I’m going to have to put Karrie Webb on my Do Not Select list – every time I put her on my PakPicker list, she plays like she did today. Shi Hyun Ahn posted her second straight round in the 60s (63 on Sunday) so maybe she’s on track?
The weather in the New York City area tomorrow looks pretty bad. If we get to see any action during ESPN2’s window, I’d consider it lucky.
