Corona Championship – 1st Round

Lorena Ochoa and Song-Hee Kim share the first-round lead at the Corona Championship. Rounds of 66 place them three shots ahead of six players who are tied for fourth - Inbee Park, Hee Young Park, Kim Williams, Audra Burks, Na Yeon Choi and Carin Koch.

Ochoa and Kim are at -7 – even now, the tournament page at lpga.com states that par is 72 although it is obviously 73 like it was a year ago. Whatever. Ochoa eagled twice, birdied four times and bogeyed once. Kim eagled her first hole of the day (#10), birdied her second, stayed at -3 through her first nine, then birdied six times and bogeyed twice over her last nine. That would have been fun to watch! Hee Young Park’s round of 69 included four bogeys – her eight birdies more than compensated. Fluke Victory candidates abound! Burks aced 13 and triple-bogeyed the par-3 3rd (her only over-par hole of the day). Williams has only 15 Top 10 finishes in over 20 years on Tour.

Scores which are not-quite-as-Notable-as-usual:
70 Sophie Gustafson, Alena Sharp, Jamie Hullett
71 Ji-Young Oh, Giulia Sergas, Janice Moodie
72 Brittany Lincicome, Moira Dunn, Kate Golden, Soo-Yun Kang
73 Johanna Head, Sun Young Yoo, Ashleigh Simon
74 Hee-Won Han, Minea Blomqvist, Dina Ammaccapane
75 Silvia Cavalleri, Irene Cho, Kristy McPherson
77 Virada Nirapathpongporn, Taylor Leon, Shanshan Feng
78 Erica Blasberg, Michelle McGann, Louise Stahle
81 Amy Yang, Sarah Kemp

A few players are finishing their final hole as I write this – if I find anything else to add, I will in the AM.
