Suzann Pettersen opened with a 65 to grab a two-shot lead at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Alena Sharp is alone in second place after her 67 with Angela Park and Katherine Hull tied for third after rounds of 68.
Pettersen birdied eight of her first eleven holes (!) before stumbling with bogeys at 13 and 16. Another birdie at 18 gave her the round of seven under par. Sharp also bogeyed 16 but did birdie five of her last ten. Overall the scoring wasn’t anything special, so Suzann’s round is an impressive one. The other scores include:
69 Shi Hyun Ahn, Hee-Won Han, Maria Hjorth
71 Sophie Gustafson, Laura Diaz, Seon Hwa Lee, Laura Davies
72 Paula Creamer, Annika Sorenstam, Brittany Lincicome, Stacy Prammanasudh
73 Se Ri Pak
74 Christina Kim
75 Catriona Matthew, Morgan Pressel, Ariya Jutanugarn
76 Jeong Jang
79 Ai Miyazato, Young Kim
Ariya Jutanugarn is the 11-year-old who got through qualifying to break Michelle Wie’s record for youngest player to ever make an LPGA field. How about Hee-Won Han! A 69 in her return from maternity leave! Until this week, she hadn’t walked 18 holes since April. Just like last year, the post-round interviews are filled with questions about the heat. Quite a difference from their Korean experience last weekend. Hopefully the players (especially the new mom) won’t get too worn down over the four days.
