Suzann Pettersen leads by one shot going into the final round of the Hana Bank – KOLON Championship. Eun-Hee Ji is in second place at -2, Seon Hwa Lee and Jeong Jang are tied for third at -1 and Hyun-Hee Moon is fifth at even par.
Conditions for scoring were apparently no better Saturday. Pettersen entered the day tied for the lead and a 72 was good enough to lead all by her lonesome. Ji posted a 68, the only round in the 60s. Once again, only six rounds under par were recorded (totaling 12 for the first two days) while 24 players carded 78 or worse. The 2007 overall scoring average, which was improving slowly over the last few weeks, is suffering a setback at this event!
First-round co-leader Meena Lee shot 77 to fall five back. Lorena Ochoa’s 75 leaves her six shots back. Others who are still within six include Catriona Matthew (+1), Cristie Kerr (+2), Shi Hyun Ahn (+2), Natalie Gulbis (+3) and Maria Hjorth (+3). Se Ri Pak, Jee Young Lee, and (my pick to win) Ji-Yai Shin all need a really low Sunday number to have a chance. Of course, “really low” in these circumstances could mean 67.
I think my Big Disappointment award is already locked up – Angela Park goes into Round Three in last place at +16. So much for that CYA pick! Pettersen is trying to become the first non-Korean player to win this event. With four Koreans hot on her heels, Suzann has her work cut out for her.
