Se Ri Pak combined nine birdies and one bogey to card a 63 and take a two shot lead at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic. Alena Sharp is second after her round of 65 and rookie Jin Young Pak (no relation to Se Ri) is third after posting a 67.
Se Ri has won this tournament four times previously (the last in 2003) and finished fourth a year ago. After bogeying her first hole (#10), she birdied three in a row and completed her round with five birdies over her last eight holes. Sharp opened with four birdies on her first five holes and closed with three over the last five to end the day at -6. The rookie Pak is only playing her fourth event of the year, and she withdrew after the first round in two of her first three. She has only played a full tournament once, at the MasterCard where she finished T63. So today’s round was only her sixth of 2007. In her post-round interview, she mentioned she’s had some back problems.
