Evian Masters – GULBIS WINS!

Natalie Gulbis birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Jeong Jang and win the Evian Masters. This is her first career victory in six years on Tour, coming in her 151st start. Lorena Ochoa, Juli Inkster and Ji-Yai Shin finished tied for third, one shot out of the playoff with six others finishing two shots back.

About 54 weeks ago, Natalie lost the Jamie Farr playoff to Mi Hyun Kim. Since then, her performance suggested that loss did substantial damage to her psyche. Then the back problems that struck about three months ago made the hill even steeper.

I’ll recap the circumstances that led to Gulbis’ victory, which are due mainly to Juli Inkster’s Sunday troubles, after I watch the final round coverage which starts in about 30 minutes.

Until then all I can say is, Congratulations Natalie!
