Ginn Tribute Preview

The ladies head back down south to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (near Charleston) for the inaugural Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika. The Tribute is one of the Winner Events in the LPGA Playoffs (as they call it), meaning the winner earns automatic entry into the ADT Championship. The event gets underway Thursday with TGC providing tape-delayed coverage Thursday and Friday and NBC broadcasting live on Saturday and Sunday.

RiverTowne Country Club is the site, with a course layout of 6588 yards and par-72. The course reportedly has thick rough, much like the last two courses they’ve played. Presumably there are fewer trees, but there will definitely be more heat, humidity and mosquitoes. Lots of marshland in the Charleston area.

With the jump in purse – the Tribute has the third-largest on Tour - the field-strength also jumps. Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie both make their returns to action, along with everybody else who skipped Corning. 35 of the top 36 players in my current statistical rankings are here (the very-pregnant Hee-Won Han is missing), so for at least the next two weeks we’ll be seeing the best against the best.

Yes, Lorena Ochoa is in the field. Yes, Lorena Ochoa is my pick to win. The very tough CYA choices are Paula Creamer and Juli Inkster.

Stats: Winners 1-11 (2-11 with CYAs), Top Tens 17-33.
