There have been a couple of things I could have posted about over the last two weeks but didn’t have the time to when they came up. First off, one of the two open dates on the LPGA schedule was filled with the announcement of the Sybase Classic’s move to Clifton, NJ the week of May 17. There remains one TBA on the calendar for April 19-22 – I’m still weeping inside for the defunct Atlanta Charity event. I imagine if we don’t hear an announcement on that by the beginning of the Turtle Bay event February 15, that “TBA” place-holder will have quietly been removed from the tournament page at lpga.com.
Raise your hand if you thought Paraguay was going to win the Women’s World Cup two weeks ago. At least the Koreans and Americans were NEAR the top as I expected. Needless to say, Julieta Granada is still playing well two months removed from her ADT Championship win. Celeste Troche (that’s her in the picture) looked pretty good, too…and she’s not bad at golf either, ha ha…um ok, I’ll stop it. The Italian team of Giulia Sergas and Veronica Zorzi tied for fourth with Scotland’s team of Janice Moodie (just back from maternity leave) and Mhairi McKay (just back from falling off the exempt list).
Thirdly, the Australian Women’s Open tees off Thursday (later today EST) with several familiar faces in action. Karrie Webb, Natalie Gulbis, Laura Davies, Brittany Lincicome, and Rachel Hetherington are the most notable. Being an LET event, most of the participants are regulars on that tour. A search of the TGC website shows no coverage, unfortunately.
