KLPGA member Jin Joo Hong opened up a four-shot lead (-9) with a round of 67 on Saturday at the KOLON-Hana Bank Championship. Joo Mi Kim, Karine Icher and amateur Mi Jung Hur are tied for second at -5, with Paula Creamer, Jeong Jang, Jee Young Lee and Suzann Pettersen five shots behind.
Hong, who has one victory on the KLPGA Tour this year, would be the second non-LPGA member in a row and third in the last four years to win this event (Jee Young Lee won last year and Shi Hyun Ahn won in 2003). The victory would give Hong LPGA exempt status for 2007 if she elects to accept it. Joo Mi Kim is looking for her second win of 2006 – she won the SBS Open in Hawaii back in February. Icher has yet to win an LPGA event.
Other notable scores through Round Two:
Hee-Won Han -3
Gloria Park -2
Se Ri Pak -1
Christina Kim -1
Seon-Hwa Lee even
Mi Hyun Kim even
Sophie Gustafson even
Grace Park +2
Shi Hyun Ahn +4
Apologies for not posting a 1st round summary – I’m traveling on business and didn’t have a chance on Friday to write anything up.
