Cristie Kerr shot an amazing 61 to take a one shot lead into the final round of the John Q. Hammons Classic. Annika Sorenstam’s 68 puts her at -10. No one else is within five of the lead.
Kerr broke the course record of 64 which Annika had just tied on Friday. Starting with hole #2, Cristie birdied 10 out of 13. With four holes left, two birdies would have posted a 59 but she “only” parred them. The round was a career best for Kerr, and the lowest round on Tour this year. The amazing part of this 61 is – the best round anybody else had was a 67 by Jenna Daniels, and only 9 other players could manage 68 or 69 on this difficult course. Usually a low round like this will have another player shoot 65 and there will be couple of 66s too. A truly dominating performance by Kerr.
Sunday shapes up as a match-play shootout between Kerr and Sorenstam. Should be a mad scramble for third between Ochoa, Creamer, Meena Lee and about 10 others – unless one of them can manage a 61. The cut came at +4, claiming Brittany Lang and Maria Hjorth, most notably.
