This week’s event is the John Q. Hammonds Hotel Classic presented by SemGroup, at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The defending champion of this 54-hole event is Annika Sorenstam, who bested Paula Creamer by one shot last year. TV coverage will begin Friday night at 7p EDT on the Golf Channel (tape-delayed).
The course is par-71 6551 yards. If you’ve liked the birdie-fests we have been seeing the last couple of weeks, you may be in for a disappointment. Last year the cut was +7 and only five players finished the week under par. In addition to the course’s length, the fairways are rather narrow and the rough is often compared to US Open standards. For good measure, there are 87 bunkers scattered throughout.
I mentioned that Annika is the defending champ – actually she’s won here the last two years and three of the last four. So you’ll forgive me if I make her my pick to win this week. My CYAs are Cristie Kerr and Lorena Ochoa. Current pickem stats: Winners 1-6 (3-6 with CYAs), Top 10s 12-19.
